A campaign for the players who came after the final whistle.
When the 2003 England Rugby World Cup winning squad returned to everyday life, many found the transition from stadium glory to 'Civvy Street' far harder than expected. A lifetime of pushing bodies to the limit often leaves former professionals with complex physical conditions, mental-health challenges and a need for new purpose and skills.
Champions 2003 exists to support and educate those players, giving them a network and a path into the next stage of their careers. The connected shirt is both a fundraiser and a way for supporters to carry the cause with them.
The shirt carries the connection.
This limited-edition England Rugby shirt is the first official national sports-team shirt to embed an NFC tag beneath the rose badge. Fans tap the badge with their phone to access exclusive campaign content — no app, no account, just a direct connection between the shirt and the supporter.
Each shirt has its own identity rather than a single campaign link shared by every item. A tap proves the shirt is genuine, opens the campaign content, and turns an anonymous owner into a known, contactable fan the team can come back to.
What a tap opens.
The digital portal behind the badge delivers campaign and team updates, player messages, competitions and special offers — the material the Champions 2003 campaign was built to share, delivered straight to the person holding the shirt.
Because the portal is managed rather than printed, the content can change after the sale. New stories and new calls to action reach owners without reprinting anything, so the relationship stays open long after the shirt is shipped.
Relevant wherever the fan is.
The NFC experience uses geo-location to serve content that fits the moment — whether the fan is at the stadium, at home or on the other side of the world. That tailored approach makes each tap feel personal rather than generic.
The same mechanism can be used to surface local offers, event invitations or campaign updates based on where the shirt is tapped, turning a single garment into an ongoing communication channel.
Who made it happen.
